Illegal Aliens or Illegal Mexicans?

So it seems as if illegals are all categorized as individuals who leech off the system, using anchor babies as leverage in this discussion. What about the illegals who travel here to have an opportunity of a better life? Who is anyone to tell them they should forget that dream. The anchor babies you speak of have grown up over the years and suffer from what the parent's irrational way of immigrating here. Where is their solution to becoming legal citizens, when it wasn't their decision to arrive here in the first place.

There are many different cases, yet this discussion board is only recognizing one. We have individuals who cross the border, individuals who come here on a visa and overstay the stated period, people who come here for protection from their own country...

I can only sigh, at individuals who are so one sided. Just cause people here feel it is their right to say who should be able to stay or go in this country. Many illegals pay taxes as well, and just as many Americans if not more, evade taxes. Yet we never seem to compare that fact.

Stopping illegal immigrations has always been a issue. But for many it wasn't their intent in the first place, just like it wasn't for many Americans to be in debt, it just happened wrong. As far as not having amnesty for illegal is like not giving immigrations any sort of chance to fix their problem.

Overall, not all illegals are uneducated. Just because the typical stereotyping of Mexican's crossing the border. What about Pacific-Asians, Europeans...some which have a higher education demographic than the United States. Simply understand, people who have made the mistake of coming to this country illegally, should have a opportunity of fixing their status. No one, and I repeat no one, should have the right to tell who should be allowed to stay anywhere. Believe it or not, some American's actually illegally immigrate to other countries, it just so happens that other countries aren't as unwelcoming of them to do so.

Whether we're from United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Russia I can keep going. We're not all born equal. Some were fortunate to be born in a country of much more opportunity. So whatever happens this year with immigration reform. Please don't be stubborn to understand, we were all once immigrants, don't forget that. Immigration reform should be equally valued and weighed, then decided. Remember this is the land of the free. I'm Asian, and I have no Mexican heritage. But I speak for Mexican individuals who stand on the same side I do.

So please I urge everyone discussing this matter, not to stereotype every visitor who travel here to be the same, cause we are not the same. But we do have the same desire to live here in harmony, also believe me when I say this, most Mexican's might not speak English fluently, but they work twice as hard than an legitimate worker, for half the wage.

Sunshine (2007) English Subtitled Review

So it has been a while since I done a review for movies, but after watching this one for a second time, I really felt inspired to write it. Today I'll be writing about Sunshine. Made by director Danny Boyle, who recently won an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire.

I'll be honest the first time I watched Sunshine, I really thought the movie was quite boring, until I recently received a copy while going through my friend's computer.

So the movie is a science fiction/thriller. It follows these group of astronauts who are sent on a mission to save earth, by taking this shuttle "Icarus II", after a failed attempt in the past to restart the sun. Earth's last hope to save themselves, they build this massive bomb out of the last remaining materials existing on our planet. Based on the "Big Bang" theory, they decide to create an explosion large enough to produce a star within a star (Sun). Along the mission, these astronauts encounter a bunch of problems, after a long period living closely with each other. The movie truly shows human emotion at work, a fight breaks over the simplest thing like sending a video message back to loved ones. Which if you really follow the movie, you'll understand why. They also encounter the loss of their ecosystem, that generate their oxygen. After one of the crew members makes a disastrous calculation, that requires them to make a exterior repair to the ship, in which the captain sacrifices himself for the greater good. After the loss of their captain they found, distress signals from "Icarus I", which seemed almost impossible, since believed they were lost seven year ago. They make a decision to take the route to rendezvous with the original Icarus, which would increase their chances of success of the mission with an extra bomb.

Their judgment call proved to be ugly, They encounter many more situations such as losing crew members, a guilty suicide that ties to the first half of the movie. An old crew members death wish to everyone, after sabotaging Icarus II's mission.

The movie proves to have a lot of plot twist and some loose ends, but then it makes up for incredible acting, and tremendous soundtrack that makes you feel the emotions involved in some scenes. The plot seems to be building up to something since the very beginning, but with many plot twists. It ends up to slightly kill the movie, In my opinion. I think they should of stuck to the whole, its the typical end of the world plot, get to destination, draw straws to see who stays, detonate, and leave sorta deals.

Aside from all of it, I definitely still would recommend the movie to anyone who wishes to pass time. Its worth a watch, but I would recommend others before it. The soundtrack does make up for a lot of things through the movie.


Loves: Truly enjoyed many of the actors attempt to deliver the screenplay, very diverse cast, great directing and great soundtrack.

Hates: Didn't really enjoy much of the plot twists, their whole attempt to isolate the character's emotions seemed good, but they should of put more memory elements to the plot. Such as childhood memories, flash backs, just to make the characters more human.

Rating: B+

KINGS on NBC

So yesterday while I was on Hulu, I was waiting for a new Chuck episode which was basically the only show I looked forward to every week. I see this new show premiere on the front page, called "KINGS". I remember seeing previews of it, weeks before. I recall having much interest for the show, if first impression is good I'll usually check it out.

THE RUNDOWN:

So basically the show is about a modern society filled with war, much like ours. But they have a monarchy. Yes, a monarchy. I found it quite interesting, a king that rules the United States, instead in the show it's named "Kingdom of Shiloh", under the nation Gilboa. It's ruled by King Silas Benjamin , a ruler that seems to have a some what tough and intimidating appearance. He has a daughter and a son. Which are Prince and Princess, in the show as well.

Gilboa is undergoing war, having problems holding front lines. The king shows much concern for the war and calls for daily strategic plans to advance. The prince's unit is captured and held hostage. David a mechanic that followed in his dead father's footsteps is fighting in the war, he comes off as a smart individual with a lot of hidden talent, you will see much of that in the show. Under the cloak of night, he wanders behind enemy lines and rescues the captives. Which was a risky move, since he was given orders to stay put. So the next morning much to his surprise, instead of being court-martialed he is given a banquet in his honor for bravery, since he didn't know he just saved the prince. A misleading photo taken while he was behind enemy lines, made headlines. Which lead to him becoming a public figure. The king was very happy for his son's return, he was willing to grant David anything he wishes, but David was humble. So since David had a good following with the public he promoted him, to an officer in charge of notifying the public. Which rubbed the prince the wrong way, since he was suppose to be looked up to by the people. Through out the story David grows on the king, and his daughter Michelle. The story is thicker than the summary I'm giving here, which you gotta watch for yourself. The show displays a lot of human flaws and struggles, David loses his brother in return ends the war with bravery much different from the first half of the show. But starts another inside the kingdom

What I love about the show is the score of the entire show, has the soundtrack of a motion picture, and the developments of the characters are amazing. The show has alot of reference with the religion and the bible, in fact the first episode is based on a revision of "David and Goliath". At the end of the show, the plot gets even thicker. Which is easy to tell where the show is going, but I hope NBC keeps this show running. It beats two hours at Sunday school, learning about the bible with a modern story telling twist.

Skid Row in LA

Our economy today is horrible. Unemployment rate was at 8.1%, last time I checked. As I went down to L.A today with a group of people from church, it confirmed how bad our society was becoming. Early Saturday morning, we all met up at our host's house Bryan to prepare sandwiches to hand out, as we lined up to make and package the eats, sixty-eight sandwiches I counted, we put drinks, chips, and a snack in each bag, reminded me of my days in school. But nothing prepared for the trip we were about to take. We set in three cars heading to our destination. Once we got there, the feeling was already different before we even got out. The depression was apparent, just gazing out the window I imagined the struggles of each individual, but could not begin to relate such a burden.

We separated into groups of five, each holding a bag of meals. The first five minutes, my bag was already empty, another five, two more bags. We were running out faster than we could introduce ourselves. They came and left as quick as we could throw in "God Bless", who could blame them. I would be the same, maybe worse.

As the day wore on, we were done with what we came to do. But wanted to check out a ministry on the corner. It was a hole in the wall project called "Jonah Project". They established two months prior. They welcomed us like their own. As we walked in people started playing bible bingo and a performance by a group of mimes, which I found quite entertaining. After the performance they invited us to go out and hand out these fruity cookies. Before we even started, many were eager to grab more than a couple, even the back-up taffy candies were demanded like a hot meal. Walking to the corner of the street, I saw a sight I will never forget. The whole street were flocked with homeless people, the presence of the depression was overwhelming. Describing the amount of people, would of been like what a typical day at South Coast would of been like. The smell could almost been felt by my tongue alone, if that was humanly possible.
I did the most I could with what I had and handed it out to each person I encountered. Honesty speaking, I felt discomfort from the area. I personally was concerned for the safety of each person that tagged along the trip, in the back of my head I was thinking were gonna get mugged.

I shouldn't have felt threatened that was their way of life, I was just not use to seeing such a scene. As I was heading back, sitting in the car. I looked out at the people and I felt a sense of being lucky. I am fortunate, I am blessed. Cause no matter how bad things are, I'm not living in the streets.

English Subtitled Review

So this my first official review, so I thought to myself why not start with my favorite movie of all time. So your thinking to yourself, well i'll be biased, since I love this movie so much, your right I could be biased. But i'll do my best to give the most honest opinion about it.

This movie is a remake of the Spanish film "Abre Los Ojos", Open Your Eyes. Also starring Penelope Cruz.

David Aames (Tom) is a wealthy bachelor, who inherited his father's major magazine publishing company. He lives his life day by day, not really caring about what his father created.

One day he meets Sophia (Penelope) introduced by Brian(Jason) his best mate, he instantly falls for Sophia. The Jealous Julie (Cameron), David's booty call, stalked David throughout the night. Morning hits while David is leaving his apartment, after a night of Sophia's Company, he is approached by Julie with her car. David feeling sorry for Julie decided to take a ride with her. While driving David realizes how obsessed she is with him. Julie suddenly drives off a overpass bridge that drops them into a concrete wall, which leaves David permanently disfigured and Julie dead.

David wakes up to a rude awakening, after realizing he no longer looks as great and suffering from headaches caused by the incident. He could no longer pursue Sophia from how he looked, after going on the web. He finds a solution to his problem "Lucid Dream" is a option offered by a company called Life Extension, that allows you to be frozen without aging (Cryopreservation), while your dreaming your existence. He makes his last rounds, and calls it quits by overdosing with pills.

While experiencing his "Lucid Dream" unknowingly, he imagines the world he pictures it to be. Images he remembers from his father's publishing company and album covers, paints out his life detail for detail, which makes his life seemingly perfect. But nothing is ever perfect.

David finds himself entangled in murder charges of Julie. His criminal psychologist MCcabe(Kurt), evaluates David's condition and reason. While investigating, it leads to a trip back to where it all started, Life Extension company that offered him the Lucid Dream. He gets briefed by the contracts offered and the solution for problems.

He realizes he is living a dream, he calls for tech support after escaping custody to the top of the building. An expert appears in his dream and explains to him, he has been asleep for more than 200+ years and everyone he has ever known and loved is dead. The tech offers him two options, either continuing living the Lucid Dream, or return to reality by facing his fear of heights. After a brief imagining of his best pal Brian & Proximity Infactuation Sophia, he chooses reality.

Loves: The movie has a collage of pop culture nods, the dialogue and quotes are memorable. The soundtrack is amazing. Story line is well told, beautiful cinematography makes you wanna come back for more.

Hates: Aside from the short dialogue of his pal Brian, and little explanation about David's past the movie is still number one to me. The ending leaves room for a sequel, that just might not be so bad.
